Code of Ethics

Responsibility

The non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) is accountable for its actions to its donors and service recipients as well as the public and society as a whole. It is important to maintain ethical standards and transparency.

Objectivity

The NGO should act independently and objectively, without personal or political interests that could influence its decision-making and activities.

Respect for an open society

The NGO respects the principles of freedom of expression and of an open society, promotes these values, and only works with partners who share the same approach.

Confidentiality of information

The NGO must protect confidential information received from their partners, beneficiaries, or donors. This information must not be shared with third parties without explicit consent.

Veracity and transparency

The NGO is committed to providing truthful and accurate information about its activities, results and finances. It may not intentionally mislead the public or partners.

Fulfilling commitments

The NGO must clearly define its objectives and commitments to its supporters and beneficiaries and do its best to meet them.

Conflict of interests

The NGO must be alert to potential conflicts of interest and address them in a timely manner to avoid compromising its credibility.

Ethical conduct

The NGO always acts ethically and according to the best possible practices. It complies with the law and promotes the highest standards of conduct toward all stakeholders.

Sharing Know-How

Recognition of the Founder

The organization should be transparent about who the original founder of the event is and acknowledge their contribution. Even if the event is now organized by someone else, it is important to respect the history and the original idea. It's not about mere formality, but about showing appreciation for the author's work and respect for the creator of the concept.

Singapore vs Czech Republic

Yellow Ribbon Run has its roots in Singapore. In 2016, we were the first European country to expand this concept by bringing it to the Czech Republic. In Asia, Yellow Ribbon Run has gradually spread to several other countries, with Singapore acting as the main coordinator. Just as Singapore inspired us, we are now inspiring other countries in Europe through the Yellow Ribbon Growing European initiative.

Czech Republic vs Singapore

In 2016, the Czech Republic became the first European country to adopt the Yellow Ribbon Run idea from Singapore. In 10 years, the Czech organizers have managed to build a project that is through the Yellow Ribbon Growing European initiative inspiring other European countries. The Czech Republic has become a key partner in spreading the idea of second chances beyond the Asian region. This is an excellent example of how international cooperation can cross cultural and geographical boundaries.

Czech Republic vs Europe

Yellow Ribbon Run was introduced in Europe in 2016 thanks to the Czech Republic. It was the first European country to adopt the concept from Singapore. In 2023 was in the Czech Republic - thanks to a bilateral cooperation with Norway - established an initiative Yellow Ribbon Growing Europe; a hub that now serves as an inspiration and coordination centre for other European countries. In 2025, the 10th anniversary Yellow Ribbon Run will take place?

Collaboration and Communication

If possible and appropriate, the organization should establish contact with the founder, inform them that they are organizing the event, and publish information about the project's history. It is a gesture of decency and a basis for future cooperation, or at least a mutual support.

Open communication will help build long-term relationships and prevent potential disputes over ownership of ideas or concepts.

Compliance with Legal Requirements

The organization must ensure that there is no copyright or trademark infringement where the original founder has legal rights to the event, its name, or the brand.

If there are legal aspects, such as a registered trademark, the partner organization should act in accordance with them. The legal framework related to the organization of similar events at international level should be checked.

Ethical Conduct

Although the organization is not legally obliged to cooperate with or mention the original founder in any way, the ethical principles of PR require honest and transparent behaviour. The organization should avoid appropriating other people's ideas or covering up the origin of the event.

Maintaining good relationships with other organizations in the PR community is key. Slander, manipulation, or trying to conceal the origin of the event would damage not only the organization itself, but also the credibility of the entire PR community.

Cultivating Professional Integrity

The partner organization should base itself on the values of professional integrity and honesty. Holding such events in a new location can be a great opportunity to expand the reach of the original idea, provided that ethical principles and respect for the founders of the event are maintained.

International Cooperation

International Reputation and Trust

Trust and reputation are key, not only nationally but also internationally. The organization operating in the Czech Republic should respect the same ethical principles as organizations abroad. It does not matter if the actors are from different countries as the world is closely interconnected and reputation can be quickly damaged.

Failure to recognize the original founder may damage the credibility of the Czech organization not only at home but also abroad, which may have a long-term impact on its global operations.

Copyright Protection and International Standards

If the founding organization operates abroad, it is still important to make sure that it has no legal claim to the event, its brand, or concept. Many legal systems nowadays allow the protection of copyright and intellectual property even internationally, for example through trademarks registered in different countries or globally.
Brand registration.
If a Czech or other cooperating organization took the event over without the permission or proper recognition of the foreign founder, it could face legal problems even when operating in another country.

Ethical Responsibility Regardless of Borders

Ethical standards requiring respect for authorship and transparency apply regardless of whether the entity is local or from abroad. Geographical borders are no reason to circumvent them.

In the international context, ethical principles are even more important as they affect not only the local market but also the global reputation of the organization. If a Czech organization takes over a large event founded abroad by someone else, it should follow the same rules as in the case of a domestic cooperation. This includes recognizing the original founder, respecting copyrights, communicating transparently, and seeking collaboration. This ensures both professional integrity and good international relations.
